About me:

My name is Kat Burke, and I’m a second-year communication design student at the College of Design, Architecture, Art, and Planning at the University of Cincinnati.

If I could describe myself as succinctly as possible, I would say that I am a perpetual student. Learning is my greatest passion, and my path as a designer has given me incredible opportunities to explore, research, and grow. I want to use my abilities as a designer to promote and create access to education for all.

When I’m not designing, I spend my time drawing, reading high-fantasy novels, and writing plot twists for my D&D campaign. I love anything and everything that lets me use my imagination.

My Future at UC

One of my biggest passions is animal conservation. As a child, I would spend every summer at the Cincinnati Zoo during their Zoo camp program. I would spend weeks learning about endangered animals, how they were taken care of, and what threats they face due to human involvement. Every animal faces unique challenges in terms of human interaction, pollution, and habitat destruction. As a designer, I want to tackle these challenges in a responsible and respectful manner, and hopefully use my abilities to effectively advocate for these animals. For example, I would love to explore environmental graphic design for zoos, wildlife organizations, and national parks as a career path. I want to use my skills and passions to make a difference, and I believe that the education I will receive from UC will help me get there.
